Hosted by Morrison & Foerster, The Lex Dinner was set up to offer a relaxed and intimate forum for C-level executives of prominent firms in Singapore to discuss, debate and share experiences over a fine dining experience.

Our discussions were very much inclusive and involved all the wealth of experience from the senior peers in the room.

FinTech in SE Asia: Navigating the challenges of customer conversion, scale and regulation

It is generally accepted that SE Asia presents an excellent potential for FinTech businesses looking for rapid market entry and expansion. It is, however, one of the most challenging areas in which to execute a successful regional growth strategy. The reality seems to be that whilst start-ups have a role to play in spreading innovation and disintermediation of financial services, incumbent financial services providers and consumer-facing businesses, with their extensive existing resources and customer bases are often better placed to execute and capitalize on FinTech trends and regional expansion.

The Ortus Club, in association with Morrison & Foerster seek to bring together business leaders who have a strong FinTech focus for an evening of candid conversation around the interrelated challenges of attracting and converting customers, achieving national and regional scale and the necessity of remaining agile in the face of uncertain and changing regulation.

We intend the dinner to be engaging and to help offer new insights and potential strategies for business development heads and their legal functions.

Topics to be explored include:

  • Whether M&A can be more effective than greenfield market entry for overcoming barriers to entry in frontier markets
  • Approaches to distribution partnerships to engineer customer conversion and customer loyalty
  • Reconciling your business’ desire to own a customer and customer data, with your joint venture party’s own competing interests
